We spent some quality hands-on time with Toshiba's new tablet, the
Excite X10. A far cry from the company's
last tablet, which was sluggish and bulky, the Excite X10 weighs next to nothing, packs ports aplenty, and boasts a sleek brushed aluminum design. The Excite X10, due out in February, will run
Android Honeycomb at the outset, though Toshiba assured us that an update to the much-anticipated
Android 4.0 for tablets will grace the slate in short order.
Toshiba's 16GB Excite X10 will cost $529.99, and a 32GB version will also be available for $599. The tablet has a front-facing 2MP camera, a 5MP back-facing shooter, and a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor with 1GB of RAM. We were impressed with its crisp 10.1" display and inclusion of mini-HDMI, micro-USB, and micro-SD ports, and its .3" profile makes even the iPad 2 look a little plump.
