3D Moon map shows every nook and crater of the lunar surface in detail
The PopView 3D moon map by Cartographer Jeffrey Ambroziak is now available on Kickstarter
Most of us will never be able to go to the Moon, but thanks to the high-definition images NASA has been sending back to Earth recently, we can at least see its details up close. Cartographer Jeffrey Ambroziak wanted to take it a step further, though, and created a 3D map of our planet's satellite that's available both as a digital and a printed image on Kickstarter. The PopView 3D Moon map project is slated to be up on the website only for 28 days, or the duration of one lunar cycle.
As a child, Ambroziak always wondered why maps printed on paper didn't pop up like real terrain. Eventually, he decided that 3D was the solution, and patented a 3D technology that he used to create this piece. Obviously, you need 3D glasses to appreciate the map, but if you don't have any lying around, you can always make your own or back the project on Kickstarter with a pledge of $15 or more to get a free pair. And if you decide to pledge $65 or more, you'll also get a printed version of the 3D Moon map on top of its digital image.
Aside from 3D-ifying the Moon, Ambroziak has also made PopView maps of Mars and Antarctica that have been displayed at the Underline art gallery in Manhattan.
