New iPhone case promises to make your phone indestructible and backs it up with insurance
For $44.99, you get an invincible case and an insurance policy
We've seen a lot of iPhone 4S cases here at Tecca, from one that recharges your phone with solar power to one that turns your phone into a hipster-style camera. But one thing we haven't seen yet is a case that promises to be completely indestructible, with a phone-replacement guarantee to back the claim up. Until now.
The new Cellhelmet case is made of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber, or TPU for short. According to Cellpig, the creators of the Cellmet, TPU "has a feeling of a hard rubber, yet it's not rigid like plastic."
The case comes with your choice of two interchangeable backplates. Most importantly, the Cellhelmet includes one year's worth of insurance, ready to pay for the cost of replacing or repairing your phone should the unthinkable occur.
Should your iPhone still break while under the protection of the Cellmet, you're covered for the repairs in the first year you own it. There is a catch — repairs have an associated $50 handling fee. The company allows for unlimited repairs, and will replace your phone once if it's beyond repair. If your phone breaks beyond repair twice during the year or is damaged by water, then you're out of luck.
Cellhelmets will retail for $44.99, but manufacturer Cellpig is offering early adopters a deal. Stop by their Kickstarter page to get them to their $10,000 goal (as of press, they only have $600 left to go) and you can score one of the first cellhelmets for just $40 and an invite to their Pittsburgh launch party.
