Actor James Franco, star of award-winning films such as Milk and 127 Hours, is well known for his quirky personality, but his latest venture is a bit unorthodox, even for him. Franco is teaming up with artists Brainard and Delia Carey to launch the Museum of Non-Visible Art (MONA). The team has launch a Kickstarter fundraising page to help get the project off the ground, and despite having a goal of just $5,000, over $11,000 in funds has already been pledged.

As Franco and his fellow artists explain in the video above, the artworks on display in the MONA are "visual ideas" that are described to the viewer. Ranging from short films to sculptures, the works exist simply in thought. No physical presence is given to the art aside from a title and description card.

Donating to the Kickstarter project means getting your own piece of invisible art work. Based on the amount you pledge, a different piece of art is awarded. For example, donating $50 will net you a costume from James Franco's imaginary short film Red Leaves. But remember, these items are invisible, and the only physical reward you'll receive is a description card to put on display in your home. To appreciate the work, you must use your imagination.

The MONA team plans on touring the museum in the U.S. and Europe, though no date for the real-life event has been announced. Until then, you'll just have to imagine how awesome it will be.
