This morning, Sony announced the Next Generation Portable, or NGP. It's the portable gaming device that will succeed the PlayStation Portable (PSP) later this holiday season. But that's not the only way you'll be able to play mobile PlayStation games; Sony is bringing classic PlayStation One games and some new titles to Android smartphones and tablets, thanks to a plan called PlayStation Suite.
Technically, Sony calls PlayStation Suite "hardware neutral" — meaning in theory it could bring PlayStation gaming to any device in time. But so far, just Android support has been confirmed. Classic PlayStation titles like Cool Boarders 2, Syphon Filter, Rally Cross, Wild Arms, and MediEvil will be playable using touchscreen approximations of the original PlayStation buttons, and downloadable through the PlayStation Store on all Suite-supported devices.
Suite is also a platform for developing new games, with Sony taking the reigns on quality control for anything third-party developers might crank out. All the games developed for PlayStation Suite will also be playable on the Sony NGP. Pricing and an exact release dates haven't been named, but we do know that this is all coming sometime this calendar year.
