Google engineers launch Nexus S into near space
Google sends a gaggle of its hottest new phones up into the clouds

Sales of the Nexus S might go sky-high when it hits stores Thursday, but a handful of Google engineers just took the phone to new heights, literally. 7 Nexus S phones were packed into styrofoam coolers and launched skyward, dangling from weather balloons. The phones collected photographs and GPS data for analysis from the edge of space, an altitude of around 32,000 meters. The phones were later tracked and recovered, and all of them survived the return trip, if that affects your decision to buy one come Thursday.
