Home Theater Choices: 7 televisions for your kitchen
Cooking your own food tends to result in healthier, more fulfilling meals. Even better, planning your meals and preparing them yourself can save you a lot of money in the long run. Cooking can take a lot of time, though, especially if you're cooking for a large family. One thing that helps that time go by a little more quickly is if you have a television in the kitchen while you cook.

Kitchen televisions tend to be smaller than the TVs in the rest of the house. If you have a breakfast bar, it helps to be able to reposition the TV so that either the cook or the diners can see the screen where they're sitting. More importantly, if you're mounting the television to your cabinets, you want a lighter, slimmer TV that won't put stress on your carpentry or take up a lot of space.

These are 7 televisions that make good options for your kitchen.

1. Highly Portable: Haier 7" LCD TV

The Haier 7" is actually a portable television and therefore easy to move from room to room in your house. It's a good option as a kitchen TV because its light weight allows you to mount it under a cabinet or someplace else without a lot of structural support.

2. Small and Inexpensive: Viore 10" LCD TV

The Viore 10" LCD TV is also intended to be a portable television. The Viore is less than a foot tall, even though you get a slightly larger screen than you would with the Haier 7" TV. The Viore 10" is still less than $100, though, which makes it a great choice for the bargain-conscious.

3. Ceiling-Mounted: Philips 19" LCD HDTV

If you want HDTV in your kitchen, you'll need to go a little larger than the previous televisions. The Philips 19" LCD HDTV lets you watch high-def programming in your kitchen, without its being so large that you can't mount it somewhere out of the way.

4. TV / DVD Combo: Polaroid 19" LCD HDTV/DVD Combo

While most smaller televisions require an additional media player, like an Apple TV or a DVD player, this Polaroid 19" HDTV comes with its own built-in disc player. Despite this additional functionality, it still only weighs around 15 lb. and should easily mount to your ceiling or wall.

5. Full-sized TV / DVD Combo: Coby 22" LCD HDTV/DVD Combo

If you like the idea of a TV / DVD combo but want something a little bigger, the Coby 22" is a full-sized television that will still mount easily on the wall. The Coby 22" is actually only minutely lighter than the Polaroid 19" HDTV combo, though, since the Coby weighs around 13 lb.

6. For a Large Kitchen: iSymphony 26"

The iSymphony 26" HDTV is pretty large for a kitchen television, but it should line up nicely on a bare wall or with a solid ceiling mount. The iSymphony 26" is a couple of feet across and about 5" deep. This size of television is usually found in medium-sized rooms. It should give you a nice, crisp picture no matter where you're standing in the kitchen.

7. Internet TV: Sony Google HDTV 24"

The Sony Google TV 24" is significantly more expensive than most kitchen TVs, costing about $600. However, the television provides a high-definition picture and is fairly small. It should be an easy fit in your kitchen. More importantly, this television connects to the internet and allows you to use services like Netflix.
These televisions are all good options to use in your kitchen. The Haier 7" and Viore 10" televisions are suitable to mount to the underside of your cabinets, while the two 19" TVs are good choices to hang from a ceiling corner. The Coby 22" and iSymphony 26" are larger televisions that will provide a fuller experience while you're watching your favorite shows. The Sony Google TV allows you to stream content from the internet, which is nice when there's nothing on regular TV to watch.

Be careful while you're mounting these televisions. Even the smallest portable TVs tend to weigh a few pounds, and that weight can introduce stress to cabinets or drywall. If you're not familiar with how to hang these kind of appliances, make sure to get some expert help.
