Top 10 re-cut movie trailers
Everyone loves a good movie, but have you ever wondered what some movies might be like with completely different plots? In case you haven't, some enterprising movie aficionados have made that a reality. With a snip-snip here and some new audio there, movies can be made to have a meaning never intended. We've searched high and low, to the far reaches of the internet to find the best, so sit back and enjoy these 10 great re-cut movie trailers.

1. The Shining
We'll kick off our list with something on a lighter note, turning horror into a family film everyone can enjoy. What would The Shining look like if Jack's writer's block could be cured by becoming part of a family? This editor's take on The Shining also fudges the title a bit, leaving us with just Shining. Hopefully after watching this, that's exactly how you'll feel, too.

2. A Christmas Story
This relatively tame take on the classic holiday film A Christmas Story has been floating around for a number of years. What starts off as a friendly enough look into one family's Christmas all comes crashing down because of "what's in the box." Maybe it's a stark reminder to package handlers everywhere to handle those fra-gi-le packages with a little bit more care.

3. The Incredibles
This is an absolutely masterful take on The Incredibles that frames it as a horror film. Between the unsettling background music and dramatic cuts from scene to scene, I was sold on the tragedy that was Dash. Hopefully you will be, too.

4. George
To be perfectly fair, George isn't a re-cut trailer from a movie because Seinfeld wasn't ever a movie. Be that as it may, Seinfeld equals or supersedes the popularity of any other film on this list, so I just had to include it. What if the plot of a movie centered around the saga of George and Susan? And then, better yet, what if George became a father? This is similar to The Shining's re-cut trailer, but it feels all the more poignant in the words of one YouTuber: "an epic tale of redemption as seen through the eyes of a short, stocky, bald man."

5. Mary Poppins
If you didn't think Mary Poppins was the least bit scary in its original form (I know I did), you will now. This terrifying take on Mary Poppins has been renamed Scary Mary, and for good reason. It's scared its share of viewers, with just a little more than 12 million views. Will it have the same effect on you?

6. The Ten Commandments
If you can believe it, this is the first re-cut trailer I ever saw, some years ago while searching for funny videos. 10 Things I Hate About Commandments is a bit of a mash-up between 10 Things I Hate About You and The Ten Commandments, giving you a look at a comedy "3,000 years in the making." It's hilarious, brilliant — and it sure is great seeing Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner on screen again.

7. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
No one can argue that Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't good, clean fun. Unfortunately for Ferris and friends, though, just a sprinkle of newly edited scenes and a dash of audio from the original Friday the 13th trailer leaves you with nothing but terror. Well, that and a new title: Ferris the 13th.

8. Ghostbusters
Where there's something strange in the neighborhood, who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters, probably. This isn't the happy-go-lucky feel-good you saw many a year ago, though. It's not really terror, but it's definitely going for drama — and that, it does well. The scenes picked are stellar, but I can't help but think that Inception music makes anything sound intense.

9. Up
The creator of this trailer asks a simple question: "Was it just me, or were Up and Gran Torino the same movie?" Using nothing but the original audio from the Gran Torino trailer, he makes a compelling case that yes, Pixar's film is nothing but an animated version of Gran Torino. Agree? Disagree?

10. Toy Story
This is another in the mash-up and re-cut category. It's Fight Club meets Toy Story, and I have to admit, this guy's done a pretty good job. The footage he uses spans all three Toy Story movies, making a pretty compelling entry into the psycho-thriller genre.
