Whoa, Blossom: Actor Joey Lawrence loves his iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and Siri [Interview]
While you might recognize the name Joey Lawrence from a certain '90s sitcom. These days, he's starring in his own sitcom called Melissa & Joey; season 2 is due some time in 2012. But he's not only an actor — Joey's a father, a musician, creator of an upcoming clothing line... and, like most of us, he's also a fan of tech gadgets.

"I've got the iPhone 4S and I've got the new iPad 2," he notes. "I'm just an Apple guy... they just make it so easy. I haven't switched over to Verizon; I'm still on AT&T. I hate the fact that you can't be on the web and on the phone at the same time — it's like a joke. Some of my friends rushed to get Verizon because AT&T — especially out in Los Angeles — is wretched. It literally drops calls like 1993. I still have AT&T, which is the only crappy part about it. The phone itself is just the best."

"This whole Siri thing is awesome," he continues. "You literally go, 'Hey, Siri, I like Mexican food,' and she'll go, 'Would you like me to find a restaurant in your area?' and then send you a list of restaurants within three miles of where you are. You can also go 'Text Dave, call me ASAP, need to go over pitch,' and it will send that text. And you can mess around with it, too, do things that are really funny."

ehh melissa & joey promo 300Apps for fun and profit
Like anyone with an iPhone, Joey collects apps for work and play. So what does he have to say about his favorites?
  • Hipstamatic is great — they get these updates every few weeks, you get all these new cameras. It's my favorite thing ever.
  • I'm a sports junkie, so I love Yahoo Sportacular.
  • I love clothes; I love to shop. There's this great app called ShopStyle which has the newest, hottest products from thousands of stores all over the country. You can browse by brand, department store, or just items like boots. And there's literally 8,000 boots. I'll go through the app and if see something really cool, I'll just take a quick pic on my iPhone, send the designer on my show the picture, and she'll go online and order it.
  • For my music, there are a lot of different recording apps, but Recorder is the best because it's very simple. There are more advanced ones, but you can't save or edit as quickly. This is cool because you can just go in there and edit and do your thing.
  • Electrify is kind of cool, too. It's like a studio, and you can create your own beats and stuff.
And what about games?
  • NBA Jam is a really good game, one that actually plays pretty well on the iPhone. It's the old-school one where if you get three shots in a row, the balls are flaming — it's so cool. But the movement on it is really good. Like Madden and stuff like that [ported to the iPhone] — it sucks, it's just not good. It's so inferior to the game console version. But this game is actually a lot of fun.
  • I'm obsessed with Tap Zoo. I just spent $30 and bought myself some lovebirds for my zoo, which is really stupid, but...
Time to chill
Fortunately, Joey finds iPhone games are always quick to get into. "Working as much as I do I don't have the time that I used to when I was a kid to go online, game, and do that kind of stuff," he confesses. "I try to every now and then, but those days are few and far between when I can put on my wireless headphones and get lost in Madden 12 or MW3 or whatever. Those days are long gone. But when I can I love it, sure."

Keep up with Joey's latest on his website, or follow him on TwitterFacebook, or YouTube. And if you'd like to catch up on Melissa & Joey before the second season starts, watch the entire first season on ABC FamilyNetflix, and Hulu.
